Mayor Buckhorn and members of the community, cut the ribbon and officially opened the new Springhill springhill ribbon cuttingCommunity Center on Tuesday, May 22. The community center is located in the Sulphur Springs neighborhood.

The design includes a gymnasium, warming kitchen, computer classroom, multi-purpose room, splash pad, playground, and a new sports field. It is also home to the Virginia Rivers Creative Arts Studio, which has three classrooms and a high tech performance workshop dedicated to theater and performing arts programs. The studio was named in honor of Virginia Rivers, who was the founder and creative director of the City's award-winning Creative Arts Theater, a professional children’s theater troupe whose mission it is to bring the performing arts to our economically challenged neighborhoods.

The community center will serve both youth and adults' social, recreational, health, and educational needs through a variety of programs and classes including an after-school program in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa.
