Suspect Arrested For Attempted Murder

WHERE: 4422 North Hale, Tampa

SUSPECT: James Edward Brookins, 11/3/1970, B/M, 4422 North Hale Apt.A

CHARGES: Attempted Murder, Aggravated Battery

VICTIM 1: Albert Brown, 10/6/90, B/M, 913 26th Avenue, Tampa

VICTIM 2: Zakayla Newsome, 10/26/07, B/F, 11307 Flora Springs Drive, Riverview

DETAILS: The suspect was involved in a verbal argument with his child's mother in the front driveway of his apartment. Victim 1 was a passenger in mother's car and confronted the suspect. Once the victim got back into the vehicle, the suspect approached the victim and shot him. The bullet struck victim Brown in the upper back/shoulder area, then exited and struck victim Newsome in the arm. The mother drove both victims to St. Joseph's Hospital. The child's wound was minor and she was treated and released. Victim Brown was admitted with non-life threatening injuries. The suspect was taken into custody by ROC officers after he was found hiding underneath a vehicle on the property just south of his apartment.
