Tampa City Council Unanimously Approves Budget for FY 2021
Last night the Tampa City Council unanimously approved the budget for the Fiscal Year 2021, focused on the theme of Lift Up Local and centered around 5 strategic goals that are supported by a foundation of financial opportunity and responsibility.
“First, I’d like to thank my colleagues in Tampa City Council for being collaborative partners throughout this whole process. This year has brought many challenges, but by working together, we will rise up stronger than ever,” said Mayor Jane Castor.
“The passage of this budget is a pivotal step towards transforming Tampa’s tomorrow. Now, more than ever, our community is looking to us to use strong fiscal opportunities and responsibilities when determining all the ways their tax dollars impact their daily life. We remain laser-focused on building neighborhoods that are inclusive and equitable for everyone by examining everything we do with a sustainability and resilience lens. This budget will invest in critical infrastructure that fosters strong multi-modal mobility options, housing affordability, not just for some but for all, a strong commitment to customer service, and championing a city-wide commitment to workforce development so that we can build a community that will last for generations.
“I’m incredibly excited for all the future holds for this great city and I can’t wait to celebrate our successes together neighborhood by neighborhood.”
The FY 2021 Budget is structured around 5 strategic goals that will guide the City forward by setting clear budget priorities to tackle key issues facing our community.
The 5 strategic goals include:
Strengthening Community-Centric Services
Enhancing Workforce Development
Increasing Housing Affordability
Improving Infrastructure and Mobility
Establishing Sustainability and Resilience
These goals focus on uplifting neighborhoods across the City and improving the quality of life for all who live, work, and play in Tampa.
In addition to funding initiatives under these strategic goals, the budget will also fund critical City services across departments and help plan for a financially stable future, including capital improvements in Parks & Recreation, Water, Wastewater, the Tampa Convention Center, Solid Waste, Public Safety, Transportation, and more.
