Tampa Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal Motel Shooting

The suspect who was involved in a fatal shooting at the Travelers Inn motel is now behind bars. Tampa Police officers charged Christopher Carithers with manslaughter in the July 24 death of Yasmine Tyson.

The Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force established leads in the case, which pointed them to Carithers’ location on July 27. While the task force members were conducting surveillance, they observed Carithers exiting a vehicle in front of a home in the 1500 block of East 24th Avenue. Carithers was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Hillsborough County Jail where he was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

DATE/TIME: Monday, July 24, at approximately 8:15 p.m.

LOCATION: 2523 E Busch Boulevard, Room 218

DECEASED: Yasmine L Tyson, 37 (DOB 02-04-80), of 3112 E. Emma St, Tampa. Her next of kin have been notified.

DETAILS: At approximately 8:15 p.m. Monday, Tampa Police responded in reference to a shooting at the Travelers Inn on E Busch Boulevard. When they arrived, officers found a female who was unconscious and appeared to have a gunshot wound.

The victim, later identified as Yasmine L. Tyson, was transported to an area hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The shooting does not appear to be random. The investigation is ongoing.
