Tampa Police Charge Mother with Killing Teenage Children in New Tampa Home

SUSPECT: Julie K. Schenecker, DOB 1/13/61, W/F, 16305 Royal Park Circle

CHARGES: First Degree Murder (2 counts)

DETAILS:

Tampa Police received a phone call from the suspect's mother in Texas at 7:39 a.m. on Friday, January 28,2011. The mother was concerned that she could not reach her daughter who she believed was depressed. When officers arrived at the family home at 7:45a.m., they found the suspect on the back porch with blood on her clothing. Officers found the 13 year old male victim shot to death in an SUV in the garage. They discovered the 16 year old female victim shot to death in an upstairs bedroom. During a post Miranda interview with detectives, the suspect confessed to killing her two children. She described the crimes in detail. The suspect was transported to the Hillsborough County Jail charged with two counts of First Degree Murder. The preliminary investigation indicates the victims were killed yesterday evening, but the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner will determine the time of death. Detectives and Crime Scene Technicians are continuing to process the crime scene this evening.
