Captain Mike Baumaister will serve as the supervisor of the Internal Affairs Bureau, overseeing the department’s professional standards. During his 15-year TPD career, he has worked as a patrol lieutenant in District II, Family Violence and Sex Crimes supervisor, a patrol supervisor of a top producing downtown squad and oversaw crime analysis.
On the streets, he worked as a COP officer and was part of the then newly developed New Tampa squad. As the department was developing a new focus on crime analysis to reduce crime, Officer Mike Baumauister played a critical role in developing the team of analysts. He was soon promoted to corporal and continued to supervise and expand that unit. He put together a tactical crime analysis team and was tasked with hiring, training the analysts and developing real-time information reports for the districts to further reduce crime. Now, crime analysis is a vital part of the department’s crime reduction success.
Captain Baumaister will use his 20 years of law enforcement experience to maintain the impartial investigations into complaints and misconduct in internal affairs. In this role, he will continue to promote the bond and trust between police and the public.
The newly appointed captain earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminology from the University of South Florida. He and his wife Christine have two children, Matthew, 12 and Hailey, 8.
