Tampa Police Detectives Assisting with House Fire Investigation

Tampa police officers and firefighters are investigating a fire that caused significant damage to a vacant house early Friday morning. After further investigation, arson investigators have determined that NO accelerant was used to start the blaze at 2216 East 17th Avenue. Detectives found signs that someone was squatting in the vacant house. Investigators are now trying to determine if the squatter accidentally started the fire with an ordinary combustible such as candles or by smoking or if it was intentionally set. Nearby homes were evacuated while firefighters rushed to estinguish the fire. No one was injured.
