Tampa Police Detectives Identify Body of Man Found in the Bay


Deceased: Robert Medley, DOB: 9/28/1985, W/M, address at large

The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s office positively identified the body of a man found floating in the Tampa Bay. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Marine Unit discovered Robert Medley’s body in the Bay south of the Gandy bridge during a training exercise on April 5. Tampa Police detectives responded to the scene along with the Medical Examiner who took possession of Medley’s body.

Detectives are investigating this case as an unexplained death and they are working with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Dead Person Floating in the bay

4/5/14 @ 0747 hours

In the bay 300 yards west of the dead-end of W. Tyson and south of Gandy Blvd.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Marine unit was conducting an exercise in the
bay south of Gandy. They discovered a dead male floating in the bay 300 yards
west of the dead-end of W. Tyson. There were no signs of debris or wreckage
around the body. They bagged the body, notified TPD and brought the body to
the Gandy boat ramp. TPD is investigating at this time. There does not appear
to be any trauma to the body. The body appears to have been in the water for
several days and we are unable to determine his race or identity at this time.
The Medical Examiner will take possession of the body and determine the cause
of death.
