TAMPA POLICE INVESTIGATE SHOOTING

LOCATION: 4605 N. Thatcher Avenue
VICTIM: WM Jason Botes 4/1/1987
SUSPECT: BM, mid to late 20's, last seen wearing black clothing.


DETAILS: Tampa Police recieved a 911 call from a female, as she was driving, who advised her boyfriend had been shot. Officers were able to come in contact with the caller and victim, identified as Jason Botes, in the 4100 block of W. Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard. Officers provided first aid until Tampa FIre Rescue arrived and transported the victim to St. Joseph's Hospital in critical condition. Detectives were able to get a description of the suspect from the victim. During the investigation, it was determined that the shooting took place at 4605 N. Thatcher Avenue. With information provided to police that the suspect may still be inside, a perimeter was immediately established around the residence and the Tactical Response (SWAT) Team was activated. The suspect was not found inside.


It is early in this active investigation. Detectives continue to develop leads to determine the motivation for the shooting and the identity of the suspect. Updates will be provided as they become available.
