Tampa Police Officer Shot While Serving Warrant; Suspect in Custody

A Tampa Police Officer was shot early Monday morning while serving a warrant. The officer was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition. 

After the suspect opened fire, two TPD officers returned fire. 

Addressing the media this morning, Chief Brian Dugan said the suspect's mother told her son to put down his weapon and give up. Within minutes he surrendered.

The injured officer, Richard Lehr, was taken to the hospital where he is conscious and in stable condition. It is unclear at this time whether the officer was shot more than once. 

TIME/DATE: Monday,  March 19, at 2:39 a.m.

LOCATION: 4605 block of N Hubert at the Hubert Avenue Villa Apartments

DEFENDANT: Walter Richard Jeziorski, 35 (DOB: 6-14-1982). A recent jail mugshot has been attached.

INJURED OFFICER: Richard Lehr, has with TPD since June of 2008. 

The two officers who returned fire are Officer Lehr and Officer Leigh Smith, who has been with TPD since June of 2014.
