SUSPECT:            Torrell Calhoun, B/M, DOB: 10/3/1997, 8539 Hyaleah Avenue

DETAILS:

A suspect responsible for at least five armed robberies in the North Tampa area is now behind bars.  On March 2nd, plain-clothes officers spotted a man who matched the description of the suspect.  The individual, later identified as Torrell Calhoun, was climbing over a fence into the Meridian Apartment complex where three of the robberies occurred.  When officers tried to make contact with Calhoun, he fled through the apartment complex.  After a foot pursuit through the neighborhood, officers took Calhoun into custody at his home.  The teenager’s mother gave consent for the officers to enter the house.  Officers located a realistic looking pellet gun inside the house next to the front door.  They also found items from previous robberies in Calhoun’s room.

Detectives interviewed Calhoun and charged him with: Armed Robbery (7 counts), Aggravated Assault w/Deadly Weapon (6 counts), Aggravated Battery w/Great Bodily Harm (2 counts), Battery (1 count), Obstructing or Opposing an Officer w/o Violence (1 count) and Loitering or Prowling (1 count).

Calhoun is currently being held without bond at the Juvenile Assessment Center.
