Tampa Police engaged in the pursuit of a carjacking suspect today that ended  with the arrest of three suspects in Polk County.

The pursuit began at about 1:00 p.m. when the Florida Highway Patrol requested that  TPD conduct a traffic stop on a car believed to be involved in a carjacking  out of Osceola County. The car fled, leading to a pursuit by TPD officers  heading southbound on I-275. The suspect exited the Interstate at the Howard/Armenia  exit and continued briefly on several Tampa streets before re-entering  the Interstate and heading back north. The suspect's car then headed east  on I-4 into Polk County, where the suspects ultimately were apprehended.

The pursuit by Tampa Police officers was discontinued when  TPD Air Service began following the suspect's car from the air. At that  point, TPD vehicles were able to turn off emergency equipment and follow  from a safe distance. Before that, a southbound TPD vehicle struck a guardrail  on I-275 just south of downtown Tampa. The officer received minor injuries.
