Tampa Police Detectives are developing leads and looking for assistance from the community in identifying the driver involved in a hit and run traffic fatality.

Victim Info:   Felix De la Uz DOB 11/30/1937; Narda Vazquez Ruiz DOB 6/12/48

Suspect Info:   1: Driver W/HM 5’4” last seen wearing white tank top, dark shorts, dark shoes   2: Passenger WF 5’4” blonde hair, last seen wearing green shirt, jeans Suspect's Vehicle:  White Honda Civic

Details:  Officers were dispatched to the report of a subject hit by a vehicle in the 4000 block of W. Hillsborough Avenue. When they arrived on scene, officers found the male victim, later identified as Felix De la Uz, dead on scene. Witnesses state that the suspect vehicle was heading west on Hillsborough when, for unknown reasons, it left the roadway hitting a sign, an electrical box, and De la Uz. Witnesses also state that prior to being hit, De la Uz pushed his wife Narda Vazquez Ruiz out of the way of the oncoming vehicle, sacrificing his safety for hers.  The vehicle came to a stop 500 feet later and the occupants fled the scene on foot.

Hillsborough Avenue was closed for hours to allow officers to investigate the crime scene; reopening around 6:30 PM. Detectives are continuing work on developing leads in this case and are also reaching out to the public to help identify the subjects who so callously took the life of a member of our community.
