Tampa Recognized as the 2nd Most Bike-Friendly City by the League of American Bicyclists
This January, 153 businesses across the US received a Bicycle Friendly Business Award from the League of American Bicyclists—including several Tampa staples.
Tampa currently has the 2nd most bicycle-friendly businesses certified by the League of American Bicyclists—only three businesses behind the number 1 city, Fort Collins Colorado. As of January, 59 Tampa businesses have received the prestigious “bicycle-friendly” recognition, including the first major airport in the program, Tampa International Airport.
“We are so proud of our local businesses that are joining the bike-friendly movement. When our community rallies around alternative transportation methods, like bicycles, it’s good for our residents, it’s good for our visitors, and it’s good for our businesses. ” says Mayor Jane Castor, “We are transforming Tampa’s tomorrow by embracing mobility alternatives, like bicycles, that make it easier for people to get around without having to drive their cars.”
As part of the Mayor’s Transforming Tampa’s Tomorrow Citywide Mobility Plan, the city plans to reimagine trails and greenways as viable transportation options, rather than just recreational avenues. This along with other mobility investments will encourage the use of transit alternatives, like bicycles, that minimize traffic congestion and encourage sustainable transportation solutions.
