TEEN SUFFERS FATAL FIREWORK INJURIES

Details:  On 07/05/2018 officers responded to the 4200 block of E. Osborne Ave for the report of a 16 year old male seriously injured by fireworks. Upon arrival, officers found good Samaritans assisting Joseph King, who was suffering from trauma to his hand and upper left torso. As officers began first aid, witnesses stated Joseph had been holding a tube containing a mortar shell style firework in his left hand. The mortar detonated while he was holding it causing significant injury to his left hand and the left side of his chest. Tampa Fire Rescue arrived, tended to the 16 year old and transported him to Tampa General Hospital with critical injuries. Despite the efforts of medical personnel at TGH, Joseph succumbed to his injuries.
