Temporary Lane Closure of S Howard Avenue to begin June 28, 2018 for Pedestrian Safety Improvements
A portion of S Howard Avenue between W Morrison Avenue and Bayshore Boulevard will close beginning on Thursday, June 28, 2018 for a Pedestrian Safety Improvement project. Private contractor will be installing sidewalk on the west side of S Howard Avenue between W Jetton Avenue and the CSX railroad crossing. The southbound lane on S Howard Avenue between W Morrison Avenue and the CSX railroad crossing will close daily between 9 am and 4 pm beginning on June 28, 2018.
Southbound and northbound traffic will be maintained intermittently on the east side of S Howard Avenue, with delays.
The sidewalk on the west side of S Howard Avenue between W Morrison Avenue and W Watrous Avenue will be closed during construction. Pedestrians will be detoured to other available sidewalks in the area with signage.
As part of the Pedestrian Safety Improvement project, the contractor will be installing sidewalks, landscaping and parking spaces on W Jetton Avenue to the west of S Howard Avenue. W Jetton Avenue between S Howard Avenue and S Moody Avenue will close daily between 8 am and 5 pm beginning on Monday, July 2, 2018. W Jetton Avenue is anticipated to be open to traffic by 5 pm on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, weather permitting.
All lanes on S Howard Avenue are scheduled to be open to traffic by 4 pm on Monday, July 2, 2018, weather permitting.
The City recommends using alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion. Southbound motorists can use S MacDill Avenue or S Rome Avenue between W Morrison Avenue and Bayshore Boulevard in lieu of S Howard Avenue.
