Temporary Lane Closure W Spruce Street and N Himes Avenue to begin April 22, 2019 for Utility Construction

A portion of W Spruce Street between N Dale Mabry Highway and N Himes Avenue and N Himes Avenue between W Columbus Drive and W Spruce Street will close daily from 9 am to 4 pm beginning Monday, April 22, 2019 for utility construction.  A utility contractor will be installing a gas service connection across W Spruce Street to the east of N Himes Avenue intersection and on the east side of N Himes Avenue between W Spruce Street and W Walnut Street.  The eastbound left turn lane on W Spruce Street between N Sterling Avenue and N Himes Avenue and one (1) southbound lane on N Himes Avenue between W Walnut Street and W Spruce Street will close beginning on April 22, 2019.

Left turn movements for eastbound motorists on W Spruce Street at the intersection at N Himes Avenue will be prohibited during construction.

One (1) southbound lane on N Himes Avenue between W Walnut Street and W Spruce Street will be maintained at all times during construction.

Sidewalks on W Spruce Street and N Himes Avenue within the work areas will be closed during construction.  Pedestrian access will be maintained via signage to other sidewalks in the area at all times.

All lanes on W Spruce Street between N Sterling Avenue and N Himes Avenue and on N Himes Avenue between W Walnut Street and W Spruce Street will be open to traffic by 4 pm on Thursday, May 2, 2019, weather permitting.

The City of Tampa recommends that motorists use alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion.  Eastbound motorists on W Spruce Street wanting to turn north on N Himes Avenue can use N Dale Mabry Highway or N MacDill Avenue between W Spruce Street and W Columbus Drive.  Southbound motorists can use N Dale Mabry Highway or N MacDill Avenue between W Columbus Drive and W Spruce Street in lieu of N Himes Avenue.
