Temporary Lane Closures of Davis Islands Bridge/Davis Boulevard to begin July 25, 2019 for Utility Construction
A portion of the Davis Boulevard Ramp/Davis Boulevard between W De Leon Street to Arbor Place will close beginning on Thursday, July 25, 2019 for utility construction. A TECO utility contractor will be installing electrical and gas piping under the Hillsborough Bay from the Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church parking lot on W De Leon Street to Davis Boulevard Park as part of the Re-Feeding of Tampa General Hospital Capital Improvement Project. This project will help safeguard electric and natural gas services to Tampa General Hospital in the event of a significant storm. The construction will be completed in three (3) phases.
As part of Phase 1, one (1) southbound lane on the Davis Islands bridge between the Tampa General Hospital ramp and Adalia Avenue, two (2) southbound lanes on Davis Boulevard between Adalia Avenue and Arbor Place and one (1) northbound lane on Davis Boulevard between Arbor Place and Adalia Avenue will close at 9 am on July 25, 2019.
One (1) southbound lane on the Davis Islands bridge/Davis Boulevard and two (2 ) northbound lanes on Davis Boulevard will be maintained at all times during construction, with delays.
In order to maintain traffic on Davis Boulevard, the parking on both sides of Davis Boulevard, between Adalia Avenue and Arbor Place will be prohibited and the parking lanes will be utilized for traffic. One (1) southbound lane on Davis Boulevard will shift into the parking lane on the west side of Davis Boulevard between Adalia Avenue and Arbor Place. Northbound traffic on Davis Boulevard will shift into the parking lane on the east side of Davis Boulevard between Arbor Place and Adalia Avenue to maintain two (2) northbound lanes.
During Phase 1 construction, westbound motorists on Arbor Place and eastbound motorists on Adalia Avenue and on Aegean Avenue will be restricted to right turns only onto Davis Boulevard within the construction area.
Phase 1 construction is scheduled to be completed Friday, September 20, 2019, weather permitting, with Phase 2 construction immediately following. Details of the additional phases will be provided in September, 2019.
The installation of electrical and gas piping will require work into the night and potentially early morning hours on three (3) separate 24 hour periods during the course of the project. Residents adjacent to the work zone in the Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church parking lot on W De Leon Street and on Davis Boulevard should be prepared for an extended duration of noise and additional construction lighting during these periods.
The pedestrian crosswalk at Adalia Avenue will be closed for the duration of the construction project. A temporary crosswalk on Davis Boulevard will be established to the south of the intersection of Arbor Place.
The first two (2) phases of construction are expected to be completed by January 10, 2020, weather permitting, with the entire project scheduled to be completed in the spring 2020.
The City of Tampa recommends that motorists traveling to and from Davis Islands and Tampa General Hospital should allow more time to drive on Davis Boulevard beginning on Thursday, July 25, 2019.
