Temporary Lane Closures on E Columbus Drive and N 21st Street to begin on December 16, 2019 for Utility Construction

A portion of E Columbus Drive between N 15th Street and N 34th Street and N 21st Street between E 21st Avenue and E Columbus Drive will close daily from 9 am to 4 pm beginning on Monday, December 16, 2019, for utility construction.  A utility contractor will be installing streetlights and poles along E Columbus Drive and E 21st Street as part of the Mayor’s Initiative/Bright Lights, Safe Nights program.

 

One (1) eastbound lane on E Columbus Drive between N 20th Street and N 24th Street will close at 9 am beginning on December 16, 2019.

 

One (1 ) eastbound lane on E Columbus Drive between N 20th Street and N 24th Street will be maintained at all times during construction, with delays.

 

One (1) southbound lane on N 21st Street between E 17th Avenue and E Columbus Drive will also close.

 

One (1) southbound lane on N 21st Street between E 17th Avenue and E Columbus Drive will be maintained at all times during construction, with delays.

 

The sidewalks in the work area will be closed during construction.  Pedestrian access will be maintained via signage to other sidewalks in the area, during construction. 

 

It is anticipated that all lanes on E Columbus Drive between N 20th Street and N 24th Street and all lanes on N 21st Street between E 17th Avenue and E Columbus Drive will reopen to traffic by 4 pm on Friday, January 10, 2020, weather permitting.    

 

The City of Tampa recommends that motorists use alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion.

   

Eastbound motorists can use E 7th Avenue between Nuccio Parkway and N 34th Street, in lieu of E Columbus Drive. Trucks can use E Adamo Drive between N Avenida Republica de Cuba/Nuccio Parkway/Channelside Drive and N 34th Street.

 

Southbound motorists can use N Avenida Republica de Cuba/Nuccio Parkway between E 21st Avenue and E Palm Avenue, in lieu of N 21st Street.
