Temporary Lane Closures of E Whiting Street to begin September 5, 2018 for Utility Construction

A portion of E Whiting Street between N Jefferson Street and N Morgan Street will close on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, as part of Phase 2 of the TECO upgrade project.  The TECO subcontractor will be installing conduit on E Whiting Street between N Pierce Street and N Morgan Street. 

Phase 1 construction work on N Pierce Street at the intersection of E Whiting Street is expected to be completed on September 5, 2018, with the contractor transitioning into the phase 2 work.  On September 5, 2018 at approximately 9 am, one (1) westbound lane and one (1) eastbound lane on E Whiting Street between N Jefferson Street and N Morgan will close.  It is anticipated that this phase of construction work will be completed by 4 pm on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, weather permitting. 

One (1) westbound lane and one (1) eastbound lane of traffic on E Whiting Street between N Jefferson Street and N Morgan Street will be maintained at all times during construction, with delays. 

Sidewalks on both sides of E Whiting Street between N Jefferson Street and N Morgan Street will remain open during construction.

Five (5) additional phases will follow upon completion of Phase 2 construction work.  The following streets will have interim lane closures.

Phase 3: E Whiting Street between N Morgan Street and N Pierce Street – one (1) westbound lane

Phase 4: E Whiting Street between N Jefferson Street and N Pierce Street – one (1) eastbound lane

Phase 5: N Jefferson Street closed southbound between E Washington Street and E Whiting Street and E Whiting Street closed westbound between N Jefferson Street and N Pierce Street

Phase 6: E Whiting Street between S Nebraska Avenue and N Jefferson Street and S Jefferson Street between E Brorein Street and E Whiting Street – one (1) westbound lane and two (2) northbound lanes, respectively

Phase 7: S Jefferson Street between E Whiting Street and E Brorein Street and E Whiting Street between N Pierce Street and S Jefferson Street –two (2) southbound lanes and one (1) eastbound lane, respectively

It is anticipated that these 7 phases of the TECO upgrade project will be completed and all lanes will be open to traffic by 4 pm on Sunday, September 30, 2018, weather permitting.

The City recommends using alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion.
