Temporary Lane Closures N Himes Avenue and I-275 Southbound Himes Avenue Exit Ramp to begin June 26, 2019 for Road Construction

A portion of N Himes Avenue between W Spruce Street and W Cypress Street and I-275 Southbound Himes Avenue exit ramp between I-275 and N Himes Avenue will close daily from 9 am to 4 pm beginning on Wednesday, June 26, 2019, as part of the Midtown Tampa development project.  A private contractor will be constructing driveway entrances, modifying the center median, milling/paving, and installing a new traffic signal in 4 phases on N Himes Avenue between I-275 and W Cypress Street. 

Phase 1 (Construction of driveway entrances on the west side of N Himes Avenue):

One (1) southbound lane on N Himes Avenue between W Spruce Street and W Cypress Street will close at 9 am on June 26, 2019.  One (1) southbound lane of traffic on N Himes Avenue between W Spruce Street and W Cypress Street will be maintained at all times during construction, with delays.

One (1) westbound left turn lane on I-275 Southbound Himes Avenue exit ramp between I-275 and N Himes Avenue will also close at 9 am on June 26, 2019.  Two (2) westbound lanes on I-275 Southbound Himes Avenue exit ramp will be maintained at all times during construction, with delays.

The sidewalk on the west side of N Himes Avenue between the I-275 and W Cypress Street will be closed during construction.  Pedestrians will be detoured to other available sidewalks with signage.

Phase 1 will be completed by mid-July 2019.

Phase 2 (Median improvements of N Himes Avenue between W Arch Street and W Cypress Street):

After completion of Phase 1, one (1) southbound lane on N Himes Avenue between W Spruce Street and W Cypress Street and one (1) northbound lane on N Himes Avenue between W Cypress Street and I-275 will close daily beginning in mid-July 2019.  One (1) southbound lane of traffic on N Himes Avenue between W Spruce Street and W Cypress Street and one (1) northbound lane on N Himes Avenue between W Cypress Street and I-275 will be maintained at all times during construction, with delays.

 

One (1) westbound left turn lane on I-275 Southbound Himes Avenue exit ramp between I-275 and N Himes Avenue will also close during this Phase.  Two (2) westbound lanes on I-275 Southbound Himes Avenue exit ramp will be maintained at all times during construction, with delays.

Phase 2 will be completed by mid-August 2019.

Phase 3 (Milling and paving southbound and northbound lanes on N Himes Avenue):

After completion of Phase 2, one (1) southbound lane on N Himes Avenue between W Spruce Street and W Cypress Street will close daily beginning in mid-August 2019.  One (1) southbound lane of traffic on N Himes Avenue between W Spruce Street and W Cypress Street will be maintained at all times during construction, with delays.

One (1) westbound left turn lane on I-275 Southbound Himes Avenue exit ramp between I-275 and N Himes Avenue will also close during this portion of Phase 3.  Two (2) westbound lanes on I-275 Southbound Himes Avenue exit ramp will be maintained at all times during construction, with delays.

After milling and paving the southbound lanes in this Phase, one (1) northbound lane on N Himes Avenue between W Cypress Street and W Arch Street will close daily.  One (1) northbound lane of traffic on N Himes Avenue between W Cypress Street and W Arch Street will be maintained at all times during construction, with delays.

Phase 3 will be completed by 4 pm on September 27, 2019.

 

Phase 4 (Traffic signal erection at main driveway entrance on N Himes Avenue):

After completion of Phase 3, both southbound and both northbound traffic lanes on N Himes Avenue between W Nassau Street and W Grace Street will close for a 5 minute duration in the evening in the beginning of October 2019 for the erection of the new traffic signal at the new driveway entrance to the Midtown Tampa development. 

 

All lanes on N Himes Avenue and on I-275 Southbound N Himes Avenue exit ramp will be open to traffic by Friday, October 18, 2019, weather permitting.

The City of Tampa recommends that motorist use alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion.
