Temporary Lane Closures on N Himes Avenue to begin March 12, 2018 for Road Construction

A portion of N Himes Avenue between W Spruce Street and W Cypress Street will close on Monday, March 12, 2018, as part of the Capital Improvement project.  The contractor will be widening the outside lanes on N Himes Avenue under I-275 as part of the first phase of construction.  One (1) southbound lane on N Himes Avenue between W Union Street and W Arch Street will close weekdays between 9 am and 3 pm beginning on March 12, 2018.  The center lane of the I-275 off-ramp will also be closed between 9 am and 3 pm beginning on March 12, 2018.

One (1) northbound lane on N Himes Avenue between W Arch Street and the I-275 off-ramp will close weekdays between 9 am and 3 pm daily beginning on March 12, 2018.

The sidewalk on the west side of N Himes Avenue between W Main Street and the I-275 on-ramp will be closed during construction.  Pedestrians will be detoured to other available sidewalks with signage.

This phase of construction work is expected to be completed by 3 pm on Sunday, April 15, 2018, weather permitting.  

The “Himes Avenue from SR60/Kennedy Boulevard to Columbus Drive Traffic Safety Improvements” project includes improvements on N Himes Avenue between W Kennedy Boulevard and W Columbus Drive and improvements on W Columbus Drive between N Himes Ave and N Lincoln Avenue.  The N Himes Avenue safety improvements include replacement of the two-way left turn lane with raised traffic separators and median islands, lane narrowing, dedicated bicycle lanes and speed limit reduction from 40 mph to 35 mph.  The improvements on W Columbus Drive between N Himes Avenue and N Lincoln Avenue include raised separators.

The entire project is expected to be completed by September 15, 2018, weather permitting.

The City of Tampa recommends that motorist use alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion.
