Temporary Lane Closures of N Pierce Street and E Whiting Street to begin September 11, 2018 for Utility Construction

A portion of N Pierce Street between E Jackson Street and E Whiting Street and a portion of E Whiting Street between N Jefferson Street and N Pierce Street will close on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, as part of Phase 4 of the TECO upgrade project.  The TECO subcontractor will be installing conduit on the north side of E Whiting Street between N Jefferson Street and N Pierce Street. 

Phase 1 construction work on N Pierce Street at the intersection of E Whiting Street is expected to be completed on September 11, 2018, with the contractor transitioning into the Phase 4 work.  Phase 2 and Phase 3 construction work has been postponed. 

On September 11, 2018 at approximately 9 am, one (1) southbound lane on N Pierce Street between E Washington Street and E Whiting Street and one (1) westbound lane on E Whiting Street between N Jefferson Street and N Pierce Street will close.  It is anticipated that this phase of construction work will be completed by 4 pm on Monday, September 17, 2018, weather permitting.

One (1) southbound lane of traffic on N Pierce Street between E Jackson Street and E Whiting Street and one (1) westbound lane of traffic on E Whiting Street between N Jefferson Street and N Pierce Street will be maintained all times during construction, with delays. 

Sidewalks in the construction area will be closed.  Pedestrians will be detoured to other sidewalks in the area via signage.

Three (3) additional phases will follow upon completion of Phase 4 construction work.  The following streets will have interim lane closures.

Phase 5: N Jefferson Street closed southbound between E Washington Street and E Whiting Street and E Whiting Street closed westbound between N Jefferson Street and N Pierce Street

Phase 6: E Whiting Street between S Nebraska Avenue and N Jefferson Street and S Jefferson Street between E Brorein Street and E Whiting Street – one (1) westbound lane and two (2) northbound lanes

Phase 7: S Jefferson Street between E Whiting Street and E Brorein Street and E Whiting Street between N Pierce Street and S Jefferson Street –two (2) southbound lanes and one (1) eastbound lane

It is anticipated that these 7 phases of the TECO upgrade project will be completed and all lanes will be open to traffic by 4 pm on Sunday, September 30, 2018, weather permitting.

The City recommends using alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion.
