A portion of Polk Street between Jefferson Street and Ashley Drive will close at 9 am on Monday, June 26, 2017, for road work, as part of the Downtown Railroad Quiet Zone Improvements project.  The City’s contractor, Ajax Paving Industries, will install Qwick Kurb on the north and south sides of the CSX railroad tracks on Polk Street between Jefferson Street and Ashley Drive. The construction will include seven (7) blocks on Polk Street and will be accomplished one block at a time. Work will begin on Polk Street between Jefferson Street and Pierce Street and progress westerly.

The eastbound and westbound lanes on Polk Street within each block under construction will be closed daily from 9 am to 4 pm with traffic maintained in the parking lanes. No parking will be permitted on Polk Street in the vicinity of the construction.

Pedestrian access will be maintained on both sides of Polk Street and at all crosswalks throughout the work area.

It is anticipated that all lanes on Polk Street will open to traffic by 4 pm on Friday, June 30, 2017, weather permitting.

The City recommends using alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion.
