Temporary Lane Closures on S Florida Avenue and Channelside Drive to begin July 16, 2020 for Utility Construction

A portion of S Florida Avenue between Water Street (formerly Old Water Street) and E Brorein Street and Channelside Drive between S Franklin Street and S Morgan Street will close beginning on Thursday, July 16, 2020, for utility construction.  A private contractor will install communication facilities along the east side of S Florida Avenue between Channelside Drive and E Brorein Street for the JW Marriott hotel.


One (1) northbound lane on S Florida Avenue between Water Street and E Brorein Street, one (1) eastbound/left turn lane on Channelside Drive between S Franklin Street and S Florida Avenue, and one (1) eastbound lane on Channelside Drive between S Florida Avenue and S Morgan Street will close at 9 am on July 16, 2020. 


One (1) northbound lane on S Florida Avenue between Water Street and Channelside Drive, two (2) northbound lanes on S Florida Avenue between Channelside Drive and E Brorein Street, one (1) left turn lane and two (2) eastbound lanes on Channelside Drive between S Franklin Street and S Florida Avenue, and two (2) eastbound lanes on Channelside Drive between S Florida Avenue and S Morgan Street will be maintained at all times during construction, with delays.


Sidewalks within the work area will be closed during the construction.  Pedestrians will be detoured to other available sidewalks in the area with signage.


All lanes on S Florida Avenue between Water Street and E Brorein Street and on Channelside Drive between S Franklin Street and S Morgan Street except the northbound eastern curb lane on S Florida Avenue between Water Street and Channelside Drive will reopen to traffic by 4 pm on, Thursday July 30, 2020, weather permitting.


The City of Tampa recommends that motorists use alternate routes to avoid traffic congestion.
