Temporary Lane Closures on S Florida Avenue to begin July 20, 2020 for Road Construction

A portion of S Florida Avenue between Water Street (formerly Old Water Street) and Channelside Drive will close on Monday, July 20, 2020, for road construction.  A private contractor will be making roadway improvements on S Florida Avenue between Water Street and Thunder Alley for the new JW Marriott Hotel.  The work will be completed in two (2) phases. 

During Phase 1, the two (2) southbound lanes on S Florida Avenue between Thunder Alley and Channelside Drive will close at 9 am on July 20, 2020.  One (1) northbound lane on S Florida Avenue between Water Street and Thunder Alley will be maintained during construction, with delays.

Access to the Marriott Waterside Hotel will be available from Water Street only during this phase of construction.

The sidewalk in the work area will be closed during construction.  Pedestrian access will be maintained via signage to other sidewalks in the area at all times.

The Phase 1 work is scheduled to be completed by 4 pm on Sunday, August 2, 2020, weather permitting.  Phase 2 will begin immediately following the completion of Phase 1 work. 

During Phase 2, the two (2) northbound lanes on S Florida Avenue between Water Street and Thunder Alley will close.  Two (2) southbound lanes on S Florida Avenue between Thunder Alley and Water Street will be maintained at all times during construction, with delays.

Access to the Embassy Suites Hotel and the Pam Iorio Parking Garage will only be available from the north off of Channelside Drive during this phase of construction.

The sidewalk in the work area will be closed during construction.  Pedestrian access will be maintained via signage to other sidewalks in the area at all times.

All lanes on S Florida Avenue between Water Street and Thunder Alley will reopen to traffic by 4 pm on Friday, August 14, 2020, weather permitting.

The new JW Marriott Hotel is scheduled to open in the fall of 2020.

The City of Tampa recommends that motorists use alternate routes to avoid traffic congestion.
