Temporary Lane Closures on W Columbus Drive to begin April 16, 2018 for Road Construction
A portion of W Columbus Drive between N Dale Mabry Highway and N MacDill Avenue will close on Monday, April 16, 2018, as part of the Capital Improvement project. The City contractor will mill W Columbus Drive between N Himes Avenue and N Lincoln Avenue in the center median areas. The inside eastbound and westbound lanes on W Columbus Drive will close daily between 9 am and 4 pm beginning on April 16, 2018.
At least one (1) eastbound lane and one (1) westbound lane on W Columbus Drive between N Dale Mabry Highway and N St. Vincent Street will be maintained at all times, with delays.
The sidewalks on W Columbus Drive between N Himes Avenue and N Lincoln Avenue will remain open during construction.
This phase of construction work is expected to be completed by 4 pm on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, weather permitting.
The “Himes Avenue from SR60/Kennedy Boulevard to Columbus Drive Traffic Safety Improvements” project includes improvements on N Himes Avenue between W Kennedy Boulevard and W Columbus Drive and improvements on W Columbus Drive between N Himes Ave and N Lincoln Avenue. The N Himes Avenue safety improvements include replacement of the two-way left turn lane with raised traffic separators and median islands, lane narrowing, dedicated bicycle lanes and speed limit reduction from 40 mph to 35 mph. The improvements on W Columbus Drive between N Himes Avenue and N Lincoln Avenue include raised traffic separators.
The entire project is expected to be completed by September 15, 2018, weather permitting.
The City of Tampa recommends that motorist use alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion.
