Temporary Road Closure on Old Water Street to begin April 15, 2019 for Building Construction
A portion of Old Water Street between S Florida Avenue and Channelside Drive will close beginning on Monday, April 15, 2019 for building construction. A private contractor will install caissons on the south side of Old Water Street between S Florida Avenue and S Morgan Street for the new JW Marriott overhead pedestrian bridge. The pedestrian bridge will connect the JW Marriott hotel to the existing Marriott Waterside hotel. Old Water Street between S Florida Avenue and S Morgan Street will close in both directions at 9 am on April 15, 2019.
The sidewalks on the south side of Old Water Street between S Franklin Street and S Morgan Street and on the north side of Old Water Street between S Florida Avenue and S Morgan Street and will be closed during construction. Pedestrians will be detoured via signage around the construction area. The north-south crosswalk on the west side of S Florida Avenue at the intersection of Old Water Street will be open during construction.
Old Water Street between S Florida Avenue and S Morgan Street is expected to be open to traffic by 4 pm on Friday, April 19, 2019, weather permitting.
As part of the Marriott Waterside hotel Phase 1 streetscape enhancement project, the sidewalk on the south side of Old Water Street between S Franklin Street and S Florida Avenue will remain closed until May 2019.
As part of the JW Marriott construction, the sidewalk on the north side of Old Water Street between S Florida Avenue and S Morgan Street will remain closed until fall 2020.
All work on the Sewer Force Main Capital Improvement project on Old Water Street between S Franklin Street and S Morgan Street will be suspended between April 29, 2019 and June 17, 2019, subject to the NHL playoffs. After the NFL playoffs, a City contractor will continue installing a 48” sewer force main in Old Water Street between S Florida Avenue Street and S Morgan Street, as part of Phase 3 construction.
Two (2) additional phases will follow completion of Phase 3 construction work. The following streets will have road closures:
Phase 4: Old Water Street between S Florida Avenue and S Morgan Street
Phase 5: Old Water Street at the intersection of S Morgan Street
The entire Wastewater project is expected to be completed by fall 2020, weather permitting.
The City of Tampa recommends that motorists use alternate routes to avoid traffic congestion.
