Temporary Road Closure of S Himes Avenue to begin June 15, 2020 for Utility Construction

A portion of S Himes Avenue between W Bay to Bay Boulevard and W El Prado Boulevard will close daily from 9 am to 4 pm beginning on Monday, June 15, 2020 for utility construction.  A utility contractor will be installing a gas main on the west side of S Himes Avenue between W Tacon Street and W San Luis Street.


The southbound lane on S Himes Avenue between W Tacon Street and W San Luis Street will close at 9 am on June 15, 2020.  Southbound and northbound traffic will be intermittently maintained on the east side of S Himes Avenue at all times during construction, with delays.


Sidewalks in the work area will be closed during construction.  Pedestrians will be detoured to other available sidewalks with signage.


All lanes on S Himes Avenue will reopen to traffic by 4 pm by   Wednesday, July 15, 2020, weather permitting.


The entire Palma Ceia Phase 2 Gas Main Replacement project is scheduled to be completed by Wednesday, November 18, 2020, weather permitting.


The City of Tampa recommends that motorists use alternate routes to avoid congestion.  Southbound and northbound motorists can use S MacDill Avenue or S Dale Mabry Highway between W Bay to Bay Boulevard and W El Prado Boulevard, in lieu of S Himes Avenue.
