Temporary Road Closure on S Himes Avenue to begin June 18, 2020 for Utility Construction

A portion of S Himes Avenue between W Bay to Bay Boulevard and W El Prado Boulevard will close daily from 9 am to 4 pm beginning on Thursday, June 18, 2020 for utility construction.  A utility contractor will be installing a gas main across S Himes Avenue at the intersection of W Santiago Street.

The southbound lane on S Himes Avenue between W Bay to Bay Boulevard and W San Juan Street will close at 9 am on June 18, 2020. 

Southbound and northbound traffic will be intermittently maintained on the east side of S Himes Avenue between W Bay to Bay Boulevard and W San Juan Street at all times during construction, with delays.

Sidewalks in the work area will be closed during construction.  Pedestrians will be detoured to other available sidewalks with signage.

All lanes on S Himes Avenue between W Bay to Bay Boulevard and W San Juan Street will reopen to traffic by 4 pm on Saturday, July 18, 2020, weather permitting. 

The entire Palma Ceia Phase 2 Gas Main Replacement project is scheduled to be completed by Wednesday, November 18, 2020, weather permitting.

The City of Tampa recommends that motorists use alternate routes to avoid congestion.  Southbound and northbound motorists can use S MacDill Avenue or S Dale Mabry Highway between W Bay to Bay Boulevard and W El Prado Boulevard, in lieu of S Himes Avenue.
