Temporary Road Closures on West Laurel Street between North Boulevard and the Hillsborough River to begin September 14th, 2020 for maintenance activities in the right-of-way

A portion of West Laurel Street between North Boulevard and the Hillsborough River will close beginning on Monday, September 14th, 2020 for fencing changes in the right-of-way. This project will be completed in three phases, each taking approximately 5 days to complete. Work on all phases is anticipated to be complete on October 3rd, 2020.

Phase 1, W. Laurel Street between N. Boulevard to Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park entrance will close on Monday, September 14, 2020 beginning at 9 a.m. A city contractor will remove and relocate fencing between North Boulevard and the parking entrance at Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park. Access to the parking lot at Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park will be from the east on Green St. and Laurel St. Reopening of this segment to traffic is anticipated for September 18th at 4 p.m., weather permitting.

Road Closure


Phase 2, W. Laurel Street between the Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park entrance and W. Green St. will close following the completion of Phase I. Access to the parking lot at Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park will be from North Boulevard on the west.

Phase 3, Eastbound lane closure only on W. Laurel Street, between W. Green St. and the Hillsborough River following the completion of Phase II work.  Access to the parking lot at Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park will be available from both directions on W. Laurel St. 

Road Closure


Portions of the sidewalk on the south side of W. Laurel St. between North Boulevard and the Hillsborough River will be closed during this work, as will the sidewalk on the north side between W. Green St. and the river. Pedestrian access will always be maintained via signage to other sidewalks in the area.

All lanes on W. Laurel Street between North Boulevard and the Hillsborough River will open to traffic by 4 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2020, weather permitting.
