Through Their Eyes: From Intolerance to Acceptance

This notice is archived content and this information may no longer be accurate.

Every day brings news of a new hate crime or other act of intolerance, racism, Islamophobia or antisemitism.  In an effort to stem the tide of these hateful acts, the Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council presents: Through Their Eyes: From Intolerance to Acceptance on Wednesday, April 19th from 6-8 p.m. at Barksdale Adult Activity Center in Macfarlane Park.  The street address for the center is 1801 North Lincoln Avenue.  The event is free and open to the public.

Speakers for the event include a USF med student who, along with 3 fellow med students, was assaulted, called a “towel head” and told to “go back to where you came from.”  All the med students were American born citizens.  A second speaker will talk about the hateful racism she experienced last year.  While these stories may be hard to hear they put names and faces on these horrible acts and hopefully will encourage people to stand up and speak out.
