TPD AND US MARSHALS FUGITIVE TASK FORCE ARREST HOMICIDE SUSPECT

The Tampa Police Department made an arrest in the recent homicide at Rome Ave and Main Street.

DATE: 01-24-2014 6:30PM

ARREST LOCATION: 4212 E. Osborne Ave

ARRESTED: Gerald Cheatham (B/M, 8-2-81) 4212 E. Osborne Ave, Tampa, FL

CHARGES: Murder 2nd Degree, Aggravated Battery w/Deadly Weapon, Discharge a Firearm from a Vehicle

DETAILS:
Homicide Detectives developed Gerald Cheatham as a suspect in the homicide and issued a warrant for his arrest. The US Marshals Task Force immediately adopted the case and began searching for Cheatham. After multiple interviews and surveillance was conducted the task force was able to verify that the Cheatham was hiding at the above listed address with several other people. The task force surrounded the house and ordered the occupants out of the house. Cheatham surrendered after several minutes and was taken into custody without incident.

Tampa Police release names of shooting victims from yesterday's, 01-19-2014, incident at Rome Ave and Main St.

Deceased: Benny Brown, BM, 7-30-1991, 1814 Willow Ave N Tampa, Fl.

Stable condition: Braden Brown, BM, 9-6-1987, address is at large

Details:

Benny and Braden Brown were shot on 1/19/14 at approx. 1230 hours at Main St and Rome Ave while standing outside. The shooters were in a white car. They drove by the two brothers and shot them. Both brothers were struck from the gun fire and transported to a local hospital where Benny Brown succumbed to his injuries. Braden Brown is expected to survive and is in stable condition. The investigation is still very active and police do not think it is a random act of violence, but a situation that arose from an on-going dispute.
