Traffic Advisory for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade – Monday, January 18, 2016

The 27th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Parade will take place in East Tampa on Monday, January 18, 2016 from noon – 3 p.m. The parade celebrates the life and achievements of civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The parade is free to attend and all are welcome to come enjoy the expanded route in 2016! This year’s parade will feature over 100 units including bands, floats, performance groups, City officials and dignitaries. 

The MLK Parade steps off at noon at the intersection of 21st Avenue and 15th Street. It will proceed north on 15th St. until it reaches Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and will turn east; the parade will travel east on Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd. until 22nd Street where it will turn north. The parade will continue north on 22nd St. until it reaches its end at the intersection of 22nd St. and East Osborne Ave, at approximately 3 p.m. For best viewing, parade goers are encouraged to go to 15th St.

The City of Tampa is alerting the public of road closures and towing zones in support of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade. Starting at 5 a.m., on Monday, January 18, 2016, the staging area will be blocked off to vehicle traffic. Parade staging will be located on 21st Avenue from 12th Street to 18th Street; on 14th Street/Republica de Cuba from 21st Avenue to Columbus Drive and on 15th Street from 21st Avenue to 17th Street. Parade disbanding will be located on 22nd Avenue from Osborne to Hillsborough Avenue.

Road Closure Schedule for Monday, January 18, 2016

5 a.m. Begin bike rack Install on 15th Street from Columbus Drive to MLK Blvd.
7 a.m. Staging area is closed
8 a.m. Begin bike rack install on MLK Blvd. from 15th Street to 22nd Avenue (26th Avenue and East Lake Avenue will remain open to east/west traffic until 1200 hrs (parade start))
10 a.m. Begin bike rack install on 22nd Avenue from MLK Blvd. to Osborne Avenue
12 p.m. Parade begins at the intersection of 15th Street and 21st Avenue
3 p.m. Parade ends at the intersection of 22nd Street and East Osborne Avenue
3 – 4 p.m. Parade disbands on 22nd Street between Osborne to Hillsborough Avenues

NO PARKING signs will be installed in the staging area and will be in effect from Sunday, January 17, 2016 at 8 p.m. through Monday, January 18, 2016 at 5 p.m. The impacted area is: 21st Avenue from 12th Street to 18th Street; on 14th Street/Republica de Cuba from 21st Avenue to Columbus Drive; on 15th Street from 21st Avenue to 17th St. and on 15th St. from 21st St. to E. Lake Ave. Any vehicles parked on the street in the affected no parking areas will be cited and towed at the owner’s expense.
