Traffic Crash Kills Mother and Unborn Child, Leaves Toddler in Critical Condition

DRIVER: Daryl Oliver, B/M, D.O.B. 03/8/86, 5224 Cumberland Drive, Tampa

VEHICLE: 1999 Lincoln Continental

On the listed date and time all four of the victims left the Silver Oaks Apartments traveling southbound on North 43rd Street towards East Hillsborough Avenue. The two adults were pushing their two children in separate strollers along the west curb line. They began walking in the roadway when the sidewalk ended. As all four of the pedestrians entered the roadway they failed to observe the listed vehicle traveling southbound on North 43rd Street. The vehicle struck all four of the victims with its front left and front center bumper and grille. The driver did not see the pedestrians in the roadway and was unable to avoid hitting them. After the accident the driver of the vehicle pulled over and called 911. When units arrived on scene they observed all the victims lying in the roadway. Victim #1 was immediately transported to Tampa General Hospital as a trauma patient, where she later expired due to her injuries. Victim # 1 was also (6) months pregnant. Due to the severity of victim #1 injuries the medical team conducted a caesarean section to save the unborn baby however, the fetus expired shortly after birth. Victim #2 was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition. Victim #2 sustained serious head and lung injuries. She is still currently listed in critical condition. Victim # 3 sustained a laceration to the head and a knee injury. She was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital and was listed in stable condition. Victim #4 sustained superficial injuries to her body and was transported to St. Joseph's hospital and listed in stable condition. The next of kin of the decease was notified.

The driver of the vehicle was not cited at the scene. Detectives are still working to determine whether a crime did occur or if the crash was a tragic accident.
