Update on Fatal Hit and Run Investigation

03/18/15

Detectives have a person of interest in the overnight hit and run fatality. A witness at the scene of the crash provided officers with a description of the suspect’s vehicle and a Florida tag. Once officers ran the tag, they set up surveillance at the registered vehicle owner’s home. When the suspect arrived home at 12:30 a.m., Detectives questioned him and charged him with Driving Under the Influence and Driving with a Suspended License.

There was front-end damage to his vehicle consistent with hitting a cyclist. The vehicle was wet indicating it was recently washed. Detectives believe the person of interest used a self serve car wash and are asking car wash businesses within a several mile radius of Columbus Drive and North Boulevard to examine their surveillance video. The Trailblazer was washed sometime after 8:30 p.m. and before 12:30 a.m. It is more likely that the washing occurred closer to 12:30 a.m. They are looking for video of a male suspect washing the front end of a white 2006 Chevy Trailblazer.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Tampa Police or Crime Stoppers.
