Update to Morning Courtney Campbell Causeway Crash

WHERE: Westbound Courtney Campbell Causeway before the hump

SUSPECT’S VEHICLE: Red 2000 Pontiac

VEHICLE: Black Nissan Versa

DETAILS:  The driver of the red Pontiac was traveling westbound on the Courtney Campbell Causeway when he tried to pass the Black Nissan.  He lost control of the vehicle and hit the Nissan.  Both cars spun out of control and hit a guardrail. One of the passengers of the Pontiac was ejected from the vehicle. After the crash, the driver of the Pontiac fled on foot westbound from the scene. Officers on scene contacted the Clearwater Police Department to help find the suspect.  A Clearwater officer spotted him on foot and took him into custody.  He was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital with minor injuries.  His two passengers were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital, one with life threatening injuries. The driver of the Nissan had minor injuries and was treated on scene.

Charges are pending and alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
