VOTE NOW: The Tampa Riverwalk named as a Finalist for ‘Great Places in America: People’s Choice Award’ from the American Planning Association
The American Planning Association has announced that the Tampa Riverwalk is one of five finalist for the Great Places in America: People’s Choice Award. Selected as a finalist from hundreds via an online poll, the Tampa Riverwalk will now face-off against completion from around the country. Voting for the 2018 People’s Choice Award began on October 17th and ends on November 2nd. To cast your vote for the Tampa Riverwalk, please visit https://www.planning.org/greatplaces/peopleschoice/
“As a vision that took 40 years and six mayors to complete, the Riverwalk has truly transformed this city,” said Mayor Bob Buckhorn. “We no longer look at the river as a barrier but as a central gathering place for visitors flocking to Tampa and residents who are rediscovering Tampa’s urban corps. The Riverwalk truly has something for everyone, whether you’re exercising, biking, exploring on a Segway, or using it was a path to get to some of our amazing new restaurants and riverfront parks the newly completed promenade has opened up endless possibilities for Tampa’s future.”
The Tampa Riverwalk has been a key to the economic development of Tampa’s downtown core, linking seven event parks along the east riverbank of the Hillsborough River and offering access to the river for over 8,000 visitors a week. The Riverwalk plays host to events such as the Mayor’s River of Green, Tampa Riverwalk Trick or Treat, Lighted Holiday Boat Parade, and Fourth Fridays to name a few. The Riverwalk has also been front and center on the national stage for the College Football Playoff and NHL All Star Game and soon to be NCAA Women’s Final Four and the Super Bowl. As a city experiencing its renaissance, the Riverwalk has created a central hub for entertainment, exploration, and exercise for residents and visitors alike.
