Water Restrictions Changed “In Time” to Spring Ahead

This notice is archived content and this information may no longer be accurate.
A water shortage order issued at the end of December by the Southwest Florida Water Management District was extended earlier this week. With wetter than predicted weather conditions, the extension returns Tampa and the surrounding three-county area to twice-a-week irrigation allowances, effective tomorrow. Restrictions on outdoor recreational water use remain in place.

The following irrigation allowances affect all Tampa locations; except those where reclaimed water is in use for irrigation:

• At addresses ending in 0, 1, 2, or 3 - Mondays and Thursdays;
• At addresses ending in 4, 5, or 6 - Tuesdays and Fridays;
• At addresses ending in 7, 8, or 9 - Wednesdays and Saturdays;
• At locations with no address (common areas, entry areas), and locations with mixed addresses (office complexes, shopping centers) - Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Irrigation on designated days must be completed between midnight and 8 a.m. or between 6 p.m. and midnight.

The use of sprinklers or sprinkler-like devices for recreational purposes is restricted to watering days and times for the location where in use. The use of wading pools, water slides or other child-oriented recreation devices shall discharge or empty onto lawn or landscape requiring irrigation.

Tampa residents and property owners are reminded to check their timer settings on irrigation system controllers next weekend when Eastern Standard Time changes early Sunday morning March 9 to Daylight Savings Time. While changing their irrigation controller settings, residents may also want to take the opportunity to ensure the battery backups on their controllers and the required rain sensing device on their automatic irrigation system are operating properly.
