ARREST DATE: 4/29/2014

WHERE: 411 North Franklin Street, Tampa

SUSPECT: Violet Hinrichs, 11/26/1994, W/F, 8046 Staybrook Drive, Port Richey, FL

CHARGES: Aggravated child abuse x4

VICTIM: 7-month-old male family member

DETAILS: The victim was a patient at St. Joseph’s Hospital under observation for seizures and sleep apnea. As part of this observation, the child was on video and audio monitoring. The suspect was observed on video on four occasions squeezing the victim until the victim’s heart rate and brain waves dropped to dangerous levels. Hospital staff noticed bruising to the child’s neck and contacted police. After viewing the video, the child is observed struggling, flailing his arms, turning blue and ultimately becoming unresponsive. The child has not suffered any “seizures” when the suspect was not present and he hasn’t had a “seizure” since separated from the suspect. There is no indication at this point the child has any medical condition relating to apnea or seizures.

Detectives questioned her at Tampa Police headquarters where she admitted to the crime. The investigation is ongoing and there could be additional charges.
