Zero Tolerance Motorcycle Enforcement Campaign

The Tampa Police Department will begin a motorcycle enforcement campaign starting July 5th through the end of the month. Motorcycle fatalities within the City of Tampa have more than doubled this year compared to the same period last year. Tampa Police officers have investigated 13 motorcycle fatalities this year, compared to three for the same time last year. While investigating many of the fatalities and accidents, officers are discovering more motorcycle drivers operating without the proper motorcycle endorsement. During this motorcycle safety campaign, officers will be citing motorcycle drivers for unsafe driving practices, improper display of tag and drivers without the appropriate endorsement on their license. Also, officers will be enforcing the motorcycle helmet law. Motorcycle helmets are required if the driver does not have medical insurance. There will be a zero tolerance policy during this enforcement period. The Tampa Police Department created a social media safety video and spent a week tweeting and posting safety tips on Facebook.
