Swimming and Water Safety Programs
Swimming is a life-long skill that everyone can enjoy regardless of age. We offer year-round Swimming and Water Safety Programs through the American Red Cross. Participants learn how to be safe in, on, or around water and through progressive levels, learn knowledge and skills needed for aquatic skill development.
Did you know that although 80% of Americans say they can swim,
only 56% can actually perform the 5 basic skills they need to swim safely in a pool?
Swim with the Rays
Ages 6 months to 17 years old
This summer, your child could be a part of Swim with the Rays, a collaboration between the Tampa Bay Rays, Friends of Tampa Recreation Inc., and the Tampa Parks and Recreation Department to bring attention to the importance of life-saving water safety programs in our community. The program was made possible by a $10,000 partnership grant through the Rays Baseball Foundation. The program will provide free swim lessons to children ages 6 months to 17 years old at any of our twelve swimming pools. Parents or guardians are required to complete an application and provide proof of: a free or reduced lunch form for each child from the Hillsborough County School Board, a letter of verification for any state or federal assistance for each child that includes the dates of eligibility, or state documentation for foster children. Visit our swimming pools for more information.
