City Cemeteries

Our department owns and operates four cemeteries throughout the City. These cemeteries total approximately 40 acres with over 29,500 recorded burials to date and have made city cemetery records available to search online.

Oaklawn Cemetery was Tampa's first cemetery. It was deeded in 1850 as a final resting place for "White and Slave, Rich and Poor." Feel free to explore our virtual self-guided tour to learn many interesting facts about Tampa's history.

Surveys & Mapping

In 2017, we worked with the University of South Florida Department of Anthropology to put together an interactive mapping interface of Oaklawn Cemetery. In the same year, Oaklawn Cemetery received a designation on the National Register of Historic Places. Take a look and find some facinating information regarding the oldest public burying ground in Tampa!
