Last weekend the Florida Music Education Association (FMEA) hosted their professional development conference—the longest running convention in Tampa.
Flutes, saxophones, drums, keyboards, violins, and all types of instruments made their way to the convention center for this event, brining nearly 11,000 students, teachers, and parents to Tampa.
Thousands of students in Florida auditioned for the all-state events, including all-state band, choir, and more. All age levels were represented during this multi-day event, from elementary chorus through high school orchestra and even some college performances.
FMEA offers a unique experience for students to share their passion for music and learn from some of the best instructors in the state. In fact, this year’s theme was centered on supporting artistry in both music teaching and performance.
The FMEA conference celebrated its 75th anniversary this year after 35 years in a row in Tampa, and nearly 60 years all together. With so many attendees booking nearby hotels and dining at local restaurants, this conference created an estimated $6.5 million economic impact for our city.
The Tampa Convention Center and Visit Tampa Bay are happy to have secured FMEA through 2027, and look forward to welcoming back students, educators, and parents next year.
