Competitive Leagues

We have partnered with CANDO Sports to offer a quality Team Tampa competitive sports program designed to develop a child's athletic skills, create a sense of teamwork, and motivate athletes to work hard while having fun. This partnership has created a year-round program for any child that has a desire to pursue basketball, rowing, softball, gymnastics & dance.

Recreation Leagues

Basketball

5 to 17-year-olds will learn basic basketball instruction, training drills, and be provided game time. All participants will have a chance to improve their skills in a fun and safe environment. The program takes place at several of our community centers with gymnasiums throughout the city.

Division: U10, U13 & U16 (No AAU/Travel Ball Teams)
Season: 12/10/22 - 2/18/23
Birthday Cutoff: 2/18/23
Fee: $5 per player (includes uniform shirt)

Cheerleading

The program is open to all youth aged 5-17. Cheerleaders will learn cheers, jumps, chants and very basic pyramid routines. Each cheer group will have the opportunity to participate in the department's cheer showcase and march in most major city parades during the season. Uniforms ranging from $20 to $40 are required. Registration is available at most after school program sites.

Esports

Our Esports program offers healthy, guided competition with an emphasis on social engagement and teamwork. Join other young gamers for a real youth Esports experience! The program will feature tournament and league play for multiple game titles including Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Rocket League, Madden NFL, and NBA 2K.

What is Esports? It is more than just video games. It teaches the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork while cultivating better discipline and higher self-esteem. Improves memory, focus, and attention while learning problem-solving skills and enhancing creativity as well as exercising fine motor skills and developing better hand-eye coordination.

Girls Flag Football

Girls want and deserve the opportunity to play the sport of flag football and be part of a team in their own community. Our girl's flag football league gives them that opportunity while learning the game of football and experiencing teamwork and sportsmanship.

Running Program

Consists of fitness drills and activities that will increase physical stamina while promoting lifelong healthy habits. This free program is open to elementary and middle school age participants. Registration is available at many after school program sites.

Soccer

Participants 5 to 13 years of age will learn the basic skills and get the opportunity to play in every game in a fun and safe environment. All games are played at the Police Athletic League. The activity fee includes a soccer uniform with shorts, jersey and socks. Players must provide their own shin guards and cleats.

Kids T ball game

T-Ball/Coach Pitch

Designed for players 5 to 7 years old, all games and practices are held at the Rome & Sligh Park. Players will be taught how to play baseball using the proper fundamentals. Once registered players will be placed on a team. Practices are held on Thursday nights from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Games are held on Saturday mornings and consist of 4 innings and the season is comprised of 10 games with the games being no longer than 1 hour and 20 minutes. Players are provided a team shirt and hat.

Volunteer Coaches Needed

We depend on our volunteers to assist in coaching youth sports programs. Please consider volunteering to coach or assist with your child's team when registering. All volunteer applicants must pass a background check to qualify.
