Youth playing sports

After School Intramural Sports

Exposing kids to a variety of sports is one way that we engage participants in physical activity. That is why we have intramural sports available to all registered after school participants who have an active Rec Card. Contact your local community center to register for a team.

All participants have the opportunity to compete in one of the following sports:

Short Shooters

Flag Football

8U Flag Football

7U T-Ball

Street Hockey

Buccaneers Jr. Bucs Girls Flag Football

Girls want and deserve the opportunity to play the sport of flag football and be a part of a team in their own community. The Buccaneers Jr. Bucs Girls Flag Football league provides girls with the opportunity to play in a league of their own. Contact your local recreation center to register for a team.

Lacrosse

Youth Athletic Leagues

Participant's age may not exceed the age group during the course of the season, including the playoffs. Players may play up one age group but can only play on one team.

Basketball League

9 to 14-year-olds, will learn basic basketball instruction, training drills and provide game time. All participants will have a chance to improve their skills in a fun and safe learning environment.

Divisions

Recreation: U10, U12, U15 (No AAU Teams/Travel Ball Teams)

Game Locations: Copeland Park Community Center, Forest Hills Recreation Complex, Port Tampa Community Center, Martin Luther King Jr. Gymnasium, Loretta Ingraham Community Center, Jackson Heights NFL YET Center, and Police Athletic League Center

Fee: $5 per player, includes uniform shirt

Soccer League

Participants 5-13 years of age will learn the basic soccer skills and get the opportunity to play in every game in a fun and safe environment. All games are played at Police Athletic League. The activity fee includes a soccer uniform with shorts, jersey, and socks. Players must provide their own shin guards and cleats.

Recreation: U8, U10, U13

Birthdate Cutoff: May 16, 2020

Girls Softball League

This is a slow-pitch softball league for participants 13 to 17 years of age where they will learn the basic softball skills and get the opportunity to play in every game in a fun and safe environment. All games will be played at Greco Softball Complex and Sulphur Springs Youth Development Park.

Summer Sports Clinics

Joe Abrahams Sports Camps

The Joe Abrahams Specialty Camps are offered at the New Tampa Recreation Center, Police Athletic League (PAL) and Wayne Papy Center. These week-long camps are designed to introduce youth to a series of sports in a fun and safe environment.

The Joe Abrahams Roving Camps is a series of sport-specific instructional camps offered at a reasonable price for ages 8 to 17 years.

Our R.E.C. Summer Camps provide a variety of summer sports clinics offered at community centers and parks throughout the city for participants who are registered at no additional cost.

Volunteer Coaches Needed

We depend on volunteers to assist in coaching youth sports programs. Please consider volunteering to coach or assist with your child's team when registering. All volunteer applicants must pass a background check to qualify.
