Tampa Police Launch New ‘Neighborhood Night Out’ Initiative

Participants will have a chance to win a free Ring doorbell

 

TAMPA, FL (October 1, 2018)—The Tampa Police Department is hosting several parties for prevention—crime prevention that is, and it’s all part of National Crime Prevention month in October.  The police department will roll out its new ‘Neighborhood Night Out’ event series at six parks across the city.  The goal is to promote safer neighborhoods through increased resident participation and stronger police-community relationships.

 

The first ‘Neighborhood Night Out’ is set to take place at Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park on October 2 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Additional events are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the following locations:

 

October 17—Cyrus Greene Community Center

 

October 18—Oak Park Community Center

 

October 23—Benito Playground Activity Center

 

October 24—Copeland Park Community Center

 

October 25—Henry and Ola Park

 

‘Neighborhood Night Out’ festivities will include free food, giveaways and entertainment along with a variety of activities and police resource demonstrations.  The Tampa Bay Rays mascots and Tampa Bay Rowdies Street Team are scheduled to make special appearances at specific event sites.

 

Adults who attend ‘Neighborhood Night Out’ will also have an opportunity to win a free Ring doorbell with proof of city of Tampa residency.

 

All ‘Neighborhood Night Out’ events are open to the public.

Temporary Lane Closures W Bay to Bay Boulevard that began October 7, 2018 for Utility Maintenance to be Extended

(This is a revision to a Traffic Advisory issued on September 26, 2018)

A portion of W Bay to Bay Boulevard between Bayshore Boulevard and S Dale Mabry Highway that has closed nightly beginning on Sunday, October 7, 2018 for utility maintenance will be extended.  A Hillsborough County contractor will be repairing and relining drainage pipes on the north side of W Bay to Bay Boulevard between S Ysabella Avenue and S Dale Mabry Highway. 

One (1) westbound lane on W Bay to Bay Boulevard between S Ysabella Avenue and S Dale Mabry Highway will close from 7 pm to 6 am the following morning beginning on October 7, 2018. During portions of the work, one (1) eastbound lane on W Bay to Bay Boulevard between S Dale Mabry Highway and S Ysabella Avenue will also be closed.

One (1) westbound lane and one (1) eastbound lane of traffic will be maintained at all times, during the construction, with delays.

In addition to the night work, on Saturday, October 20, 2018 only, one (1) westbound lane on W Bay to Bay Boulevard between S Himes Avenue and S Sterling Avenue will close from 8 am to 5 pm. 

One (1) westbound lane of traffic on W Bay to Bay Boulevard between S Himes Avenue and S Sterling Avenue will be maintained at all times during the construction, with delays.

Sidewalks in the construction area will be closed.  Pedestrians will be detoured to other available sidewalks in the area with signage.

All lanes on W Bay to Bay Boulevard between S Ysabella Avenue and S Dale Mabry Highway will be open by 6 am on Friday, December 7, 2018, weather permitting. 

The City recommends using alternate routes to avoid traffic congestion.  Eastbound and westbound motorists can use W El Prado Boulevard or S Howard Avenue and W Morrison Avenue between Bayshore Boulevard and S Dale Mabry Highway in lieu of W Bay to Bay Boulevard.

Temporary Lane Closures on E Hanna Avenue to begin September 24, 2018 for Utility Construction

A portion of E Hanna Avenue between N Nebraska Avenue and N 15th Street will close on Monday, September 24, 2018 for utility construction.  A utility contractor will be installing gas mains on E Hanna Avenue between N 9th Street and N 15th Street.

One (1) eastbound lane on E Hanna Avenue between N 9th Street and N Flora Vista Avenue will close daily from 9 am to 4 pm beginning on September 24, 2018 during a portion of the work. 

One (1) westbound lane on E Hanna Avenue between N 15th Street and N 12th Street will also close daily from 9 am to 4 pm during another portion of the work. 

One (1) lane of eastbound and westbound traffic on E Hanna Avenue will be maintained intermittently at all times during both portions of the work, with delays.

It is anticipated that all lanes on E Hanna Avenue between N 9th Street and N 15th Street will be open by 4 pm on Thursday, November 8, 2018, weather permitting.

The City of Tampa recommends that motorists use alternate routes to avoid traffic congestion.

Eastbound and westbound motorists can use E Hillsborough Avenue or E Sligh Avenue between N Nebraska Avenue and N 15th Street in lieu of E Hanna Avenue.

Youth Corps Recruiting Class of 2019

Tampa teens looking for an inside glimpse of how City Hall works are invited to apply for seats on the Mayor’s Youth Corps.

 

The Mayor’s Youth Corps is comprised of up to 40 students in grades 9, 10, or 11 who attend a public or private high school within the Tampa city limits.  Applications are now being accepted for one-year terms.  Application forms are available in city of Tampa school Guidance Offices and will be accepted until October 25 at 5 p.m.   Members of the Youth Leadership Council review the applications, conduct interviews, and make recommendations regarding acceptance into the program.


Youth Corps members learn about and participate in city government, meet with Mayor Buckhorn, conduct community service projects, and produce videos for a youth oriented YouTube channel.  Teens also learn leadership and employability skills while serving in the Youth Corps.  

 

The Mayor’s Youth Corps provides a forum for Tampa teens to engage with city leaders, participate in their community, connect with their peers, and learn about civics and city government. It is an incredible opportunity that will give them experience and know-how to help their community.

Temporary Lane Closures on N 22nd Street to begin September 13, 2018 for Building Maintenance

A portion of N 22nd Street between E 4th Avenue and E 7th Avenue will close daily beginning on Thursday, September 13, 2018, for building maintenance.  A private contractor will install a building overhang/covered walkway on the N 22nd Street side of the Columbia Restaurant building in the first phase of a three-phase project. 

In Phase 1, one (1) northbound lane on N 22nd Street between E 5th Avenue and E 7th Avenue will close daily between 9 am and 4 pm beginning on September 13, 2018.

One (1) northbound lane on N 22nd Street between E 5th Avenue and E 7th Avenue will be maintained at all times during construction, with delays.

The sidewalks on the west side of N 22nd Street between E 5th Avenue and E 7th Avenue, will be closed during this phase of the construction. Pedestrians will be detoured to other sidewalks in the area via signage.

All lanes on N 22nd Street will be open by 4 pm on Tuesday, November 11, 2018, weather permitting.

Two (2) additional phases will follow upon completion of Phase 1 construction work.  The following streets will have interim lane closures as part of the building overhang construction:

Phase 2: N 21st Street between E Palm Avenue and E 4th Avenue

Phase 3: E 7th Avenue between N 21st Street and N 22nd Street.

All 3 phases of the project are expected to be completed by March 11, 2019.

City of Tampa Moves to Prepaid Parking or Credit Card Only Parking at Al Lopez Park

The City of Tampa, as part of our efforts to ease and streamline parking for Buccaneers games, will move to prepaid parking or onsite credit card, we will no longer be accepting cash at Al Lopez park located at 4810 N. Himes Ave.  Parking will remain $15 and provide a convenient alternative to the Tampa Sports Authority’s on-site parking. Attendees can visit tampa.clickandpark.com to purchase advance parking.

Temporary Lane Closures on E Broadway Avenue to begin August 19, 2018 for Road Construction

A portion of E Broadway Avenue between N 50th Street and N Falkenburg Road will close beginning on Sunday, August 19, 2018, as part of the Capital Improvement project.  A Hillsborough County contractor will mill and pave the eastbound and westbound lanes on E Broadway Avenue between N 50th Street and the City limits.  The contractor will also install detectable warning pads on the existing sidewalks on E Broadway Avenue at the intersecting side streets. 

The eastbound or westbound lanes on E Broadway Avenue between N 50th Street and the City limits will close nightly Sunday through Thursday between 7 pm to 6 am the following morning beginning on August 19, 2018.

Eastbound and westbound traffic on E Broadway Avenue between N 50th Street and the City limits will be maintained intermittently at all times, with delays.

All adjacent side streets on E Broadway Avenue between N 50th Street and the City limits will be closed at the intersection of E Broadway Avenue during portions of the construction.

There will be intermittent sidewalk closures on E Broadway Avenue between N 50th Street and the City limits  during construction.  Pedestrians will be detoured to other available sidewalks with signage. 

The entire project is expected to be completed by 6 am on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, weather permitting.

The City recommends using alternate routes to avoid traffic congestion.  Eastbound and westbound motorists can use SR 60 between N 50th Street and N Falkenburg Road in lieu of E Broadway Avenue.

Temporary Lane Closures on S Davis Boulevard to begin August 13, 2018 for Utility Work

A portion of S Davis Boulevard between W Davis Boulevard and E Davis Boulevard  will close on Monday, August 13, 2018, as part of the Capital Improvement project.  A City contractor will be installing a wastewater force main on the south side of S Davis Boulevard between Severn Avenue and Cayuga Avenue. 

The eastbound lane on S Davis Boulevard between Severn Avenue and Cayuga Avenue will close at 9 am on August  13, 2018.  Traffic on S Davis Boulevard between Severn Avenue and Cayuga Avenue will be shifted to the north so that one (1) eastbound lane and one (1) westbound lane of traffic will be maintained at all times during construction. 

Parking will be prohibited on both sides of S Davis Boulevard between Severn Avenue and Cayuga Avenue, at all times during construction. 

It is anticipated that all lanes on S Davis Boulevard will reopen to traffic by 6 am on Tuesday, October 30, 2018, weather permitting.   

The City of Tampa recommends that motorists use alternative routes to avoid congestion.

Temporary Lane Closures on N 21st Street and E Palm Avenue July 23, 2018 for Building Maintenance to be Extended

(This is a revision to Traffic Advisories issued on July 17, 2018 and July 31, 2018)

 

A portion of N 21st Street between E Columbus Drive and E Palm Avenue and a portion of E Palm Avenue between N 22nd Street and N 15th Street that was scheduled to close beginning on Monday, July 23, 2018, for building maintenance will be extended.   The southbound right turn lane on N 21st Street between E 11th Avenue and E Palm Avenue and one (1) westbound lane on E Palm Avenue between N 22nd Street and Angel Oliva Senior Street will close daily from 9 am to 4 pm beginning on October 9, 2018.  A private contractor will be using a lift to install windows at The Quarter at Ybor apartment buildings on the west side of N 21st Street between E 11th Avenue and E Palm Avenue and on the north side of E Palm Avenue between N 21st Street and Angel Oliva Senior Street.  

 

Right turn movements on southbound N 21st Street at the E Palm Avenue intersection will be maintained at all times during construction, with delays. 

 

One (1) westbound lane on E Palm Avenue between N 22nd Street and Angel Oliva Senior Street will be maintained at all times during construction, with delays.

 

The sidewalk on the west side of N 21st Street between E 11th Avenue and E Palm Avenue and on the north side of E Palm Avenue between N 21st Street and Angel Oliva Senior Street will be closed during construction.  Pedestrian access will be maintained on the east side of N 21st Street and the south side of E Palm Avenue at all times, during construction.

 

All lanes on N 21st Street and E Palm Avenue will open to traffic by 4 pm on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, weather permitting.   

 

The City of Tampa recommends that motorists use alternate routes to avoid traffic congestion.

Temporary Road Closure on N Avenida Republica De Cuba to begin June 26, 2018 for Building Construction

A portion of N Avenida Republica De Cuba between E 7th Avenue and E 8th Avenue  will close at 9 am beginning on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, for building construction.  A private contractor will be staging construction vehicles on N Avenida Republica De Cuba for a new Ybor City hotel, 2018.  The hotel is being built on the block between E 7th Avenue and E 8th Avenue and between N Avenida Republica De Cuba and N 15th Street.

The sidewalks around the entire hotel project will be closed during construction. Pedestrians will be detoured to other available sidewalks in the area with signage.

All lanes on N Avenida Republica De Cuba are scheduled to be open to traffic by Tuesday, February 18, 2020, weather permitting.
