The Channel District is undergoing an impressive transformation, with exciting waterfront amenities moving in just steps from the Tampa Convention Center.

Last week, Water Street Tampa, the development group currently transforming Channelside, revealed design plans for a new waterfront development called Sparkman Wharf. Replacing the former Channelside Bay Plaza, Sparkman Wharf aims to capitalize on the most beautiful feature of the area—the waterfront.

While Channelside’s previous design looked inward towards a circular plaza, the new Sparkman Wharf design turns its attention outwards towards the channel. This development will include a waterfront lawn, beer garden, and outdoor dining, as well as 10 local concepts and a staging area for performers.

Located just a few blocks from the convention center, Sparkman Wharf will offer another great entertainment spot for convention-goers to enjoy while they visit Tampa. Just a short walk along Channelside Drive, or a quick ride on the Tampa Streetcar, can connect visitors to this new entertainment hotspot.

Sparkman Wharf is already generating excitement from locals and visitors alike, promising to be one of the jewels of the Water Street Tampa project. Besides the new retail and entertainment space, Water Street Tampa is also transforming the Channel District by adding a luxury JW Marriott Hotel, an EDITION hotel, a branch of USF Health, and more.

Not only will this booming area bring endless opportunities for attendees to experience Tampa, but it will inevitably play a major role in stimulating the local economy. Between the new hotels, waterfront attractions, and entertainment spaces moving in next door to the convention center, the transformation of the Channel District will prove to be a major asset for event tourism—creating just one more incentive for national and international conventions to look to Tampa Bay.
