The AAU National Gymnastics Championship rounded off nicely at the Tampa Convention Center over the weekend, as thousands of young gymnasts’ ages 5-18 competed in this nation-wide competition.

This year, Tampa Parks & Recreation was chosen to host this national competition, brining thousands of athletes, coaches, and parents to Tampa from across the country. Each year, AAU hosts their National Gymnastics Championship in a different state, allowing participants to travel to various cities in the US. This year, Tampa Parks & Recreation, the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, and Visit Tampa Bay were honored to welcome the prestigious tournament to Tampa, as it helps promote sports tourism in the region.

The championship kicked off Thursday morning and continued into the weekend featuring multiple gymnastics tournaments categorized by skill level and performance. Thousands gathered in the Tampa Convention Center exhibit hall, which was transformed overnight from a medical conference into a gymnasium.

Overall, the championship was a major success, highlighting Tampa Parks & Recreations’ ability to facility and host major athletics events.
