Downtown Train Horn Quiet Zone
In January 2015 the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) awarded the City of Tampa $1.35 million from the Quiet Zone Grant Program for implementation of a Downtown Train Horn Quiet Zone along the CSX tracks. In order to silence the train horn, the City of Tampa plans to upgrade nine (9) public highway-rail crossings through downtown Tampa along Polk Street from Gasparilla Plaza to North Jefferson Street. These upgrades will include additional gating, street medians, and signage in order to meet the quiet zone requirements established by the Federal Railroad Administration.
