February 1, 2010 WMNF 88.5’s Polka Party Express radio show was presented with a proclamation for “WMNF Polkateer Day" in recognition of the show’s listeners and supporters. The Polka Party Express is Tampa’s only Polka variety show since 1982 and airs every Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. |

The threat of rain did not stop the thousands that lined Bayshore Boulevard and Tampa's downtown streets for the annual Gasparilla Parade of Pirates. Following the flotilla invasion, the mayor surrendered the key to the city to the Captain of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla. As one of the largest parades in the country, this year’s event included krewes, floats, marching bands, elected officials and of course, beads. |

January 29, 2010 The Krewe of Sant' Yago held its annual Proclamation Luncheon to celebrate the Krewe's upcoming Illuminated Knight Parade. The mayor issued a proclamation recognizing January 31 through February 6 as "Krewe of the Knights of Sant' Yago Week ." Formally organized in 1972, the organization celebrates Tampa's Latin culture and history, while contributing to cultural affairs, scholarships, and endowments throughout the community. |

January 28, 2010 The mayor welcomed President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden to Tampa upon their arrival at MacDill Air Force Base. President Obama hosted a town hall meeting at the University of Tampa and announced a $1.25 billion federal grant for Florida’s high-speed rail system. More than 3,000 people listened as the president discussed Florida’s economy and the rail line that will ultimately run between Tampa and Orlando. |

January 27, 2010 A groundbreaking ceremony was held for Stageworks Theatre's new location. Donated by Mercury Advisors, the 8,000-square-foot, 99-seat theater space is located in Grand Central at Kennedy in the Channel District. Stageworks produces professional theater performances and offers educational outreach programs for aspiring theater students and at-risk youth. |

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for Bible Truth Ministries’ H.O.P.E Center, located at Lake Avenue and North 29th Street. The center has programs for education, health, and spiritual growth offering school, daycare, community meeting space, after-school programs, and playground facilities. Annually, more than 700 families are served through Bible Truth Ministries’ programs and services.

Mayor Iorio and 970 Radio Personality Jack Harris get a sneak preview of the new state-of-the-art, 66,000-square-foot museum. Watch the Mayor’s Hour on CTTV, Sundays at 1 p.m., Mondays at 7 p.m., Tuesdays at noon, Wednesdays at 9 p.m., Fridays at 3 p.m. and Saturdays at noon. |

The Leadership Tampa Class of 2010 held its Government Day at the County Center in downtown Tampa. Class members had the opportunity to interact with government officials and learn more about local government. Sponsored by the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Tampa is a program designed for professionals who are interested in community issues and volunteer their time with service organizations. |
